Dr Stephen Thompson is a Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine Consultant who treats musculoskeletal and sport-related injuries in adults. He has a keen interest in injuries related to sports, including acute, overuse and chronic injuries. These often involve the soft tissues (i.e. muscles and tendons), bones and joints. He also treats musculoskeletal problems in the general population including osteoarthritis.
He is the Tournament Physician at the All England Lawn Tennis Club managing the players during the Wimbledon Championships and has worked as a sports doctor with many teams and individuals in elite sports.
Dr Thompson graduated from The University of Edinburgh where he also completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences. He then trained as an Emergency Medicine Registrar in Manchester, during which time he gained Membership to the College of Emergency Medicine and completed a Masters Degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine at The University of Bath. Dr Thompson then finished his training in sport and exercise medicine in the East Midlands. He gained membership into the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and recognition onto the Specialist Register for Sport and Exercise Medicine. Since then he has completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Diagnostic Ultrasound.
