Modern slavery statement 2024
Fortius Clinic recognises the importance of upholding human rights and ethical standards in all aspects of our operations.
We have a zero tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking, forced labour and unlawful child labour.
Fortius is founded on the principles of trust, integrity and mutual respect. Our values underpin the way we work with each other, our suppliers and all our stakeholders and reflect our commitment to acting ethically and with honesty and fairness.
This statement is pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (the Act) and is relevant to the calendar year of 2024 which is also the financial year for Fortius Clinic.
Our organisation
Fortius Clinic specialises in orthopaedics and sports medicine and is the largest private orthopaedic group in the UK. It has more than 200 specialists including surgeons, sports physicians, rheumatologists, pain management specialists and radiologists.
Consultations and imaging are offered at three outpatient clinics located in Central London (City, Marylebone) and Wimbledon. Fortius Clinic London in Central London is a 39 bed hospital providing consultations, imaging and surgery including robotic assisted surgery for joint replacement.
Fortius employs nearly 300 clinical and non-clinical staff across its sites.
In 2021, Fortius Clinic became part of Affidea Group, a leading European healthcare provider owned by GBL, a long-term investor in health brands.
Our suppliers
Our suppliers and contractors are required to comply with anti-modern slavery measures and to support our values of trust and integrity.
We continually review our supply chain and procurement processes and monitor new and existing contracts. We assess these for risks of slavery and human trafficking and will request further information from suppliers if necessary or to substantiate accuracy of information already provided.
Our policies
We ensure all our staff are aware of the company’s views around modern slavery and human trafficking.
Our policies on Raising concerns – Whistleblowing, Safeguarding Adults including MCA and DOLS (which has a specific section on modern slavery) Levels 2 and 3, Safeguarding Children Levels 2 and 3 and Equality and Diversity provide guidance to staff on how to report concerns about modern slavery and human trafficking and what their obligations are.
All our policies are reviewed regularly and are available to staff on our Quality microsite.
All staff receive mandatory training in Safeguarding Adults, Safeguarding Children, Equality and Diversity and Affidea’s Code of Conduct.
Compliance is monitored on a monthly basis.
Due diligence
We have due diligence processes in place to assess and monitor the practices of our suppliers.
Measuring effectiveness
Our senior management team is responsible for ensuring staff complete training related to modern slavery and human trafficking and compliance is reviewed on a monthly basis.
The HR team and the Quality team are responsible for monitoring the number of reports related to modern slavery and human trafficking and any actions taken as a result.
Our supply chain compliance is monitored by the Fortius Procurement team through due diligence of new suppliers and the ongoing monitoring of existing suppliers.
We believe this policy is appropriate for our business.
Fortius Clinic is committed to strengthening its approach to ensure that slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in its own business or in its suppliers.
This statement covers the financial year to December 2024. It will be reviewed in early 2025.
