Dr Mehta is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) and the Head of Women’s Medical at the Football Association, where he has been the team doctor for the England Women's Football team (Lionesses) since 2014.

He qualified in 2003 from Kings College London and initially trained and worked in General Practice. He completed a Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine (Distinction) and subsequently went on to complete a 4 year specialist training programme in SEM on the prestigious London rotation.

Dr Mehta has worked at the forefront of elite sport for over 15 years and has attended multiple major tournaments including the most recent FIFA Women’s World Cup and the history making European Championships in 2022. He worked as a Sports Doctor at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and was the Team Doctor for the GB Women’s Football Team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. His main sporting interest is football medicine and he has worked in the Premier League and for both the England Senior Men’s and Women’s football teams. He has attended four world cups (FIFA Women's World Cups- Australia and New Zealand 2023, France 2019, Canada 2015 and FIFA Men's U20 World Cup- Colombia 2011), 2 European Championship (UEFA Women's Championship, England 2022, Netherlands 2017). He worked for Watford Football Club for 5 years including time in the Premier League and is also currently the Team Doctor to Reading FC. 

Dr Mehta doesn’t just treat elite athletes but takes great pride in translating his experience in working with elite athletes to supporting all his patients with the same level of care and attention. He is passionate in helping patients to recover from injury or musculoskeletal problems, enabling return to their previous activity levels or sporting endeavours. He ensures all patients have a detailed clinical assessment, supplementing this with the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning and additional imaging as required to enable prompt and accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment plans implemented.

Dr Mehta is passionate about research and teaching which ensures he stays up to date with the latest knowledge and treatments. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary’s University of London on the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine and has published and presented his work nationally and internationally.
