Susan Alexander

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

MBBS MSc PhD FRCS

Ms Alexander specialises in shoulder treatment.

Susan is passionate about the shoulder joint, and has been treating shoulder problems for over 20 years. She treats all problems related to the shoulder including clavicle fractures, acromioclavicular joint problems, frozen shoulder, shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears, shoulder fractures and shoulder arthritis.

Her approach with patients is tailored towards the individual and no two shoulders are the same – even in the same patient. Her philosophy is to first try and get patients better without surgery, but if surgery is required, she make this process as smooth and stress-free as possible. Susan likes to guide her patients through their therapeutic journey. She takes time to firstly listen to their concerns and then clearly explains different options at each stage of treatment. Her patients feel that they have a clear understanding and a sense of control over what happens to them.

Susan graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1996 and completed her basic surgical training and specialist orthopaedic training in London. She completed two Shoulder Fellowships in Edinburgh and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London, where she was appointed a Consultant Shoulder Surgeon from 2012 – 2015.

Susan has two research degrees; a PhD in Molecular Biology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, Imperial College London and an MSc in Orthopaedic Biomechanics from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Susan’s main interest outside of clinical practice is in medical education and she has a Certificate in Adult Education. She is the Founder and Director of The Funky Professor an on-line anatomy education company that has over 45K followers on YouTube and regularly posts on Instagram (@funkyanatomy) on issues regarding anatomy and self-development to encourage and motivate students.

I can't thank Ms Alexander and the surgical team enough for a job well done. 6 days post op and the pain is gone and the recovery is racing along. I couldn't feel any better.
