Mr Adrian Carlos is a top private Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in London specialising in all treatments of upper limb conditions including hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow. He graduated from medical school at the University of Manchester in 1996 and completed his surgical training in London. He was appointed as a Research Fellow in 2001 at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
His research grant-funded study on nerve injury and pain culminated in an MSc degree from the University of London (UCL). Mr Carlos was trained in the renowned London orthopaedic surgical training programme and gained experience working in London’s top teaching hospitals including the RNOH, Guy’s Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. He has completed two years of specialist fellowship training in upper limb surgery and has completed a prestigious travelling fellowship in advanced arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
Mr Carlos has been a substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2012. He was first appointed in Manchester where he developed a popular, modern and successful upper limb service. He led a transformation that saw the unit become a leading centre for shoulder surgery. Mr Carlos took up his current post as Lead for Upper Limb Surgery at Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre in 2014 and is a current member of the Orthopaedic trauma service provided at the famous Royal London Hospital, a level 1 trauma centre.
He has a strong commitment to training and is a Royal College Surgical Tutor and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of London. He is a faculty member for several national and international courses in the shoulder and upper limb surgery, as well as the FRCS exam. Mr Carlos is a regularly invited speaker and an examiner for an MSc programme. His research interests are in the shoulder and acromioclavicular joint surgery and he has several published works in peer-reviewed journals and popular orthopaedic textbooks. Mr Carlos consistently achieves excellent surgical outcomes using evidence-based treatments and minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery that allow patients to be safely treated as day cases. He believes in good communication, helping his patients to understand their condition and involving them in decisions regarding their treatment.
