Mr Matt Solan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon for both adults and children. He specialises in minimally invasive surgery, with an emphasis on rapid return to function.
Matt qualified in 1992 from St Thomas’ Hospital, London before training in centres across London, Oxford, Dublin and Baltimore in the US. Since 2003, he has worked as an NHS Consultant at Frimley Park and Royal Surrey County hospitals.
As Program Director for Surgical Training in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery, Matt devotes considerable time and energy to teaching junior doctors. He has also had published many scientific articles on foot and ankle surgery and maintains an active research interest. He is Honorary Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at LSBU and has been secretary of the British Foot and Ankle Society Scientific Committee.
Matt is an instructor at the famous Barouk Forefoot Surgery Faculty in Bordeaux, France, where he teaches state-of-the-art surgical treatment for toe complaints. He has pioneered the use of minimally invasive gastrocnemius muscle release and shockwave therapy for chronic heel pain from the achilles and plantar fascia. Children with heel pain oftern miss out on the physical and social benefits of sport. Matt has a pro-active approach to managing this, aiming for early return to sport.
