The book describes the basic concepts of human performance, and is ideal for anyone who is curious about the science behind their health and wellbeing and the elements that influence whether they are successful in pursuing anything they set out to achieve in life.
On her reasons for writing the book, Professor Speed said:
"I work across a number of environments - healthcare, sport, physiology, tech and education. In all of those areas it has always struck me that the concept of human performance - the way human beings function, whether they thrive, how they manage their lives, their health and wellbeing, and whether they achieve their goals, - is very poorly understood. And yet it is relevant to us all. I am also always conscious of the hype surrounding sport, performance and the wellness industry. How much hype there is, and how much money and energy is wasted in trying to achieve goals people set themselves.
