Snapping hip syndrome
What is it?
As the name suggests, snapping hip syndrome is when the hip seems to ‘snap’ or ‘pop’ when the joint is moved.
How is it caused?
The snapping sound is usually caused when a tendon such as the iliotibial band or the psoas tendon move over a bony prominence of your hip. Although it may not be painful, it can cause irritation leading to bursitis. Both types are common and tend to occur in women less than 30 years old.
