As another busy year full of events and achievements by our consultants comes to a close, we look back at some of the highlights of 2024.
We kicked off the year by welcoming the team of Wimbledon Clinics orthopaedic specialists and sports injury experts to Fortius Clinic.
Consultant Knee Surgeon Mr Sam Church and Consultant Sports Physiotherapist Mr Jarrod Antflick performed the first case of an arthroscopic ultrasound guided patellar tendon debridement procedure at Fortius Clinic.
Fortius Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon Professor James Calder met with Harlequins prop Simon Kerrod and Head of Medical Services Mike Lancaster after James helped Simon to return from a serious injury.
Fortius Consultant Knee Surgeon Mr Andy Williams appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and discussed why the risk rate of ACL injuries in female football is higher than in men with presenter Anita Rani.
Andy explained what happens when you tear your ACL and what he believes increases the risk of this injury in women.
For the second year running, Harlequins hosted a Sports Injuries educational event at its home ground The Stoop with Fortius as part of our partnership with the club.
The evening included presentations by Mr Andy Roche, Mr Andy Richards and Dr Jo Larkin as well as Corrinn Rossiter and Mike Lancaster from the Harlequins medical team.
Fortius Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine Dr Jo Larkin was involved in her third Major League Baseball London series event, where she was leading on the pre-hospital immediate care medical support for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets at London Stadium.
In September, Fortius Clinic Wimbledon won the Enterprising Business Award at the Merton Best Business Awards 2024.
Staff and consultants attended the awards ceremony held at AFC Wimbledon and enjoyed celebrating the win.
After serving two years on the executive in Vice President roles, Consultant Knee Surgeon Mr Mark Bowditch was officially appointed as President of the British Orthopaedic Association.
He will represent British Orthopaedics globally, and was humbled and excited to serve and lead the profession.
Fortius Consultants Mr Jon Houghton and Mr Steve Corbett helped the Surrey County Cricket team celebrate the end of a successful season at an awards ceremony at the Oval. This was the third year running that Surrey won the County Championship with medical support from our consultants.
Fortius Consultant Knee Surgeon and former England rugby player Mr Jonathan Webb was honoured to be elected as the Vice Chairman of World Rugby.
As always, we had a busy calender full of networking and educational events throughout the year. Highlights included our women's health in elite sport event, joint replacement educational events designed for both patients and referrers, snow sports injuries with Warren Smith, and a range of events linked to sport including cycling, tennis and golf.
Dawn French thanked Consultant Knee Surgeon Mr David Houlihan-Burne after robotic assisted knee replacement at Fortius Clinic London meant she could perform pain free and was seen dancing in her latest Christmas TV ad.
She said: “I desperately needed the surgery and it has been a great success. I’m so grateful to David and the team at Fortius for the fantastic care I received. It has made a huge difference to my quality of life and has allowed me to get on with normal activities, including performing on stage and walking the dog, with no pain.”
