Dr. Mark Ridgewell - Professional Bio
Dr Mark Ridgewell is a Consultant Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician. His main field is the management of musculoskeletal (bone, muscle and other soft tissue) and overuse injuries across the whole spectrum from elite performers to those who are starting a low-level exercise. He specialises in the prevention and management and rehabilitation of overuse injuries. Examples of what he sees include Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain, back and neck pain, hip, groin and knee pain, muscle injuries ankle sprains and foot pain. Dr Ridgewell has great experience in managing adolescent and female sports people, particularly the developing sportsperson. He uses diagnostic ultrasound scans in clinics and offers a wide variety of interventions such as injections with steroid, hyaluronic acid and platelet-rich plasma, as well as Shockwave (ESWT) therapy for tendon injuries.
Dr Ridgewell was appointed to the GMC Specialist Register in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2010.
His current roles in elite sport are currently in Tennis where he is Lead Doctor for the major LTA tournaments across the UK and has worked as Tournament Players’ physician at the Wimbledon Championships, WTA Birmingham Classic and the HSBC Championships at queen’s Club London. For 5 years he was the Lead doctor at the Loughborough University National Tennis Academy in Loughborough University. He is currently also Consultant to Loughborough Lightning Netball and to the English National Ballet School.
He received the 2025 Dr Glick award, the highest and most prestigious honour within WTA Performance Health for his excellence in working with and caring for the players
Dr Ridgewell has worked at international level across a wide variety of sports including rugby (1991-2016); Lead Doctor with the England and Wales Cricket Board between 1999 and 2003; National First Team Doctor at the Football Association of Wales 2005-2013 and Lead Physician at the Welsh Institute of Sport from 2003-2020 (Athletics, Swimming, Triathlon, Hockey, Netball, Cycling, and Gymnastics).
Dr Ridgewell has been a Programme Director and Principal Lecturer at the Cardiff Metropolitan University and has acted as a mentor for many junior doctors and physiotherapists working in sport over the years.

Our Wimbledon clinic houses a state-of-the-art imaging centre with a 3T MRI and X-ray scanners, Ultrasound, seven consulting rooms, two spacious waiting areas and well equipped treatment rooms all located on one level, ensuring easy accessibility for all patients.
Our partnership with Spire St Anthony’s Hospital allows us to provide orthopaedic surgery closer to our clinic. We treat a full range of conditions and perform joint replacement surgery using the latest Mako robotic assisted technology.

If you are travelling by Tube, our closest underground station is Wimbledon (District Line), which also has rail and tramlink services from central London and beyond.
There is no parking available at the clinic, but we have a number of parking facilities all within a 10-12 minute walk of the clinic: Centre Court Car Park, Broadway Car Park, and Hartfield Road Car Park. Please note that all of these facilities are paid car parks.
